Anyone else receive an Alpha Invite today? I just started downloading the Client....

So played a few rounds of conquest and it is fun as hell. Some really different mechanics, but really fun.

This game is hectic as hell, and weapon choice matters. SMG's are very effective at close range, but at medium to long range it is almost useless. Rifles are good at mid-range, but are very weak close range and somewhat effective at long range. Each weapon has a little chart that shows the damage at the three range types and how the bullet will fall after being shot.

Armor is devastating, but every class can get a gadget that can hurt tanks badly. It is also awesome that you can disable weapons based on where you hit armor. Get a good hit in the tracks, immobilized, hit one of the side cannons, you kill the gunner and that hard point cannot be spawned in or used anymore. But some tanks can repair themselves if you get out of combat and hit 'X', this will rapidly repair the tank, but you are very venerable as this takes 7+ seconds and while you are doing it you cannot do anything else or cancel it.

I also noticed that the ammo you can carry is very limited 4 magazines worth at most,

I did not formally apply, but it looks like if you signed up for Battlefield Insider at some point, you have the chance for an invite.

Thanks for all the info too.

Maybe we can breathe some life back into BK in there some day soon. Our 20 year anniversary is coming up in a few years lol

I do have to say that my GTX770 and my 5 year old i5 processor is showing its age. I can play the game on medium graphic settings and still get some system lag. This just confirms that my choice to build a new system is timely.

After playing a bit more some of the mechanics are becoming clearer. 

When spawning on a flag or the uncap where there are vehicles, you chose the type of aircraft or armor. For example, the uncap in the Alpha has 3 armor and 3 aircraft slots. For the Armor, you can chose Light Tank/Heavy Tank or Land Yacht (don't remember the real name) and for Aircraft you get Fighter or Bomber. Kind of neat how this works and can really change the battle based on what each team chose.

The Pilot and Tanker class is automatically chosen if you spawn in a vehicle. An each of these classes have very specific skills that make them awesome in the vehicle, but very weak as infantry. Anyone can drive a tank, but the tanker gets that auto repair I was talking about earlier and they are the only class that gets a repair tool.

When one team is losing badly, they get a Behemoth that spawns. In the case of the one Alpha mat is is a huge blimp that can tear up aircraft/armor/infantry. It can be destroyed, but it can turn the tide of a battle fairly fast.

There is still alot of the game locked. No attachments at this time, only the default gadgets and some wonky gameplay stuff.

Final day of the Alpha and just a few thoughts before the beta.

The map that is avaliable has 3 random weather effects. Clear, Rain Storm and Fog. These really impact play. While I did not notice any changes to the game play from a physics side, rain and fog will reduce the time you see an active spot and make spotting impossible at distance. Fog screws Snipers and vehicles.

The single seat tank is a beast. I cannot imagine that it will not get nurfed. I tend to go 15+ kill streaks before I get marked as high priority and get smoked. Besides the 2 shot modes (AT & Shotshell) you can also drop gas for enemies and a health pack for friendlies and self repair. The other tanks are better, but you need a good team to get a good run.

All in all, I cannot wait for this game.
